Now that you have a little background, introducing the Carolina Pet Company. Carolina Pet is the exclusive licensee for the Pendleton Woolen Mill's Pendleton Pet Collection. Popular, iconic patterns from the Pendleton Collection have been translated and applied to a wide range of pet products that are also the perfect accessories for the home.

The Pendleton Pet Collection by Carolina Pet Company

Designing for a licensed product, can be a little tricky as you have to stay in line with a brand’s identity and aesthetic. I have had the pleasure of working with Carolina Pet Company for a number of years, so I was familiar with the parameters of the brand. The Project: create a hang tag for a new collection of collars and leashes that are lightweight and durable, perfect for pets on the go, while maintaining Pendleton’s sustainability message.

After the briefing, I had the perfect design in mind. I wanted to capture the Pendleton customer’s sense of nature and adventure, with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest: Mountains 🌄. Incorporating mountains into the design of the label would do it!

I drew a simple silhouette of mountains using overlapping diamond shapes so I could easily move them to the perfect arrangement. Each was filled with the Pendleton blue. To minimize waste, the label would be used for all sizes of collars and leashes. I created a list of the sizes with an open box to be checked by the inventory department to denote the size and style of the specific item. There is space for the retailer to affix their store bar code and/or price sticker on the back. The text is a knockout design revealing the recycled craft paper label beneath.

Working on the Label

This was the only design I created for submission. I was that confident that it was the way to go. And I was right! The label made it through the Carolina Pet Company approval process AND it met all of the Pendleton brand expectations.
